Upper Management

A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts: "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?"

The man below says: "Yes you're in a hot air balloon hovering 30 feet above this field."

"You must work in Information Technology" says the balloonist.

"I do", replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well", says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone."

The man below says "You must be in Upper Management in some business."

"I am", replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well", says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

Another milestone...

When I woke up this morning, I realized that it has been 2 years since I smoked my last cigarette. May 2008 marks the 2nd year I've been cigarette/smoke free.

When I decided to try to quit, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do it as I chose to quit cold turkey. This idea came about when in May 2006, I was going to see John for the first time after being friends online for a couple of years. With the restrictions of what you can and cannot bring on a plane (disposable lighters being one of the items you can't take in your purse), I figured I'll use this trip as a trial to see how long I can go without having a cigarette. I went on for a few days without a smoke. As the trip came to an end, I was wondering if I will be able to continue being "cigarette-free". Since I was living with someone who didn't smoke there was no temptation and everyone in the department I work with don't smoke either so that really helped.

I've heard so many stories of people trying to quit the same way but then after a week they're back to smoking. I had a friend in Manila who, years ago, decided that for his new year's resolution, he was going to quit smoking because his doctor had already warned him about emphysema if he didn't quit. Well guess what, 3 days after he made that resolution, he was back to smoking.

So after a year of not smoking I didn't look for it and it felt good. Now after 2 years, still haven't looked for it and it feels pretty damn good... not only because it was a health issue but also because it's been a 2 year achievement and still counting
